Logo for the Department of Astronomy
Department of Astronomy (DoA) of Tsinghua University is announcing its logo today. The logo is designed to be an abstract from a common phenomenon in the Universe — a spiral disk and associated jets, which can be found in many astronomical systems including proto-stellar systems, accreting black holes, gamma-ray bursts, and galaxies, ranging across a huge scale in mass, size, and energy. The "spiral disk" in the logo implies the accretion of knowledge and convergence of talents, while the "jet" represents the extension of research, discoveries to the unknowns, as well as feedback to the community and society.
The DoA logo resembles one of the landmarks of Tsinghua University, the sundial, on which is sculpted the University spirit, Action Speaks Louder Than Words. This suggests a tight connection between Astronomy, Time, and the Tsinghua University.
