Exoplanets & Planet Formation Workshop 2023 held in Yanqing

The Exoplanets & Planet Formation Workshop 2023, or EPF2023 for short, was held in Yanqing District, Beijing between December 16 and 19. This conference was hosted by the Department of Astronomy at Tsinghua University and attended by about 130 people from all around the world.

Exoplanets and planet formation have become one of the fastest growing fields in astronomy, thanks to the emergence of advanced observational facilities and advances in theoretical models and computational efforts. EPF2023 is mainly aimed at researchers engaged in exoplanet research in East Asia. Topics covered in the conference include the formation, structure, dynamics, chemistry, and evolution of protoplanetary disks; the formation of planets and planetary systems and their synergy with protoplanetary disks; detection, characterization, atmospheric and dynamic evolution of exoplanets. The conference included a total of 57 oral and 43 poster presentations. In addition, conference participants  held self-organized group discussions on various topics of common interests, including women in astronomy, James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) observations of planet-forming disks, and dust sizes in protoplanetary disks. Participants had in-depth discussions on cutting-edge research and ways to build and strengthen long-term collaborations among researchers in East Asia.
