Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope Launched Successfully
On June 15th, 2017, the Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope (HXMT), China's first X-ray astronomical satellite, was launched successfully on the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center.
HXMT's direct modulation technique was proposed by Prof. LI Tipei and his colleague Prof. Wu Mei in 1990s. HXMT carries detectors to mainly collect X-rays in the energy range of 1-250 keV to study the black holes and neutron stars in the Galaxy, with a sky survey on the Galactic plane and also pointed observations of specific targets.
During the development of HXMT, the department of physics and the department of engineering physics, Tsinghua University, have made contributions on it. It is planned to make the scientific observations from November 2017. We are looking forward to the first data.
