2020 strategic meeting held to discuss the future of the Department of Astronomy
The Department of Astronomy (DoA) held its 2020 annual strategic meeting on Friday, August 7 to discuss the future of DoA. A total of 11 faculty and staff members joined the meeting either on-site or online.
Since the inaugural ceremony on April 21, 2019, DoA has made much progress on faculty recruitment, student training and are pursuing two ambitious large projects. On March 30, 2020, the State Council Academic Degrees Committee also formally approved the Department of Astronomy at Tsinghua University as a first level discipline PhD granting institute.
Lively discussions were held on diverse issues such as faculty recruitment, teaching/student training, internationalization, computational resources, colloquium, departmental culture and public outreach.
