Wide-field radio-interferometer surveys at high resolution, relatively low frequency and with very high dynamic range requirement play a prominent role in current and forthcoming radio astronomy programmes, e.g., to search for signatures of the reionisation of neutral hydrogen. One of the challenges in achieving the required high dynamic range in this regime is that diffraction of the wavefront between elements of the interferometer is significantly different in different observed directions (the 'w-effect'). We propose a new algorithm to account for this effect, which improves the widely-used W-stacking method, so that the achievable dynamic range exceeds 10^6:1 at a practical computational cost. This proposed algorithm has been implemented in WSCLEAN and NIFTY packages by their respective authors.
